Is TikTok good for business users? Social media platforms seem to come and go like the changing of the wind, but a few stick around. Instagram is the latest social media platform to really break out and live up to the hype, and is indeed has become our most frequently requested digital marketing service. But what about this new, almost unheard of platform: TikTock.
What is TickTock?
TikTock was originally released as a Chinese social app called Douyin by ByteDance in 2016. It is a social media platform built around creating short dance, lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. It is available on Android and iOS and has 500 million active users as of 2019.
Who Uses TikTock?
TikTock is primarily used by Younger audiences. 60% are 16-25 and 52% are iPhone users, which compared to the percentage of people who use iPhones, 12.5%, is hugely disproportionate. This may tell you quite a lot about the type of people using this platform. Unsurprisingly however, given the origins of this platform, 80% of users are based in China. So who is using TikTock? A lot of young iPhone loving Chinese people. But that is not the whole story. TikTock is set to grow in the west, and as it does, like with the trends in China, It will be primarily young people using it to start with. As we’ve seen with Instagram and Facebook however, platforms will grow and bring in older people.
Is TikTok good for business users?
I think its certainly one to keep your eye on. Its engaging and getting in early would be a great advantage to anyone looking to build a following. There are so many applications you could use this platform for, as its naturally addictive and entertaining. With the amount of AI software going on behind the scenes you can create some very good content using just your phone. Like with anything, if you can see an opportunity in using it, go for it. Don’t let the concerns over it being Chinese owned alarm you.
